You won’t need the luck of the Irish to complete these pet-friendly St. Patrick’s Day DIYs! Whether you’re planning a little pawty for pets, or just want to include your BFF in your St. Patty’s day plans, these treats are sure to make your furry friend feel like they’ve found a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
Bark Beer
Get the pawty started this St. Patrick’s Day with a recipe for homemade Bark Beer! This non-alcoholic version of pet-friendly green beer is dog-gone refreshing, and the ingredients are as healthy as they are festive.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup chicken stock
- 2 tablespoons frozen spinach, chopped
Directions:
- Pour the chicken stock into a pint size mason jar.
- Chop up the spinach and add to the jar. The finer you chop it, the more green your ‘beer’ will turn out!
- Let sit in the refrigerator for roughly twenty-four hours, shaking it every few hours to help the colour of the spinach disperse evenly.
- Strain the spinach and pour into a drinking bottle.
This can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week and frozen for up to three months.
Pot of Gold Cookies
These delicious treats are perfect for those pups that aren’t of legal drinking age (approx. 3 years old and under), and even include a very fun and Instagram-worthy presentation.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup brown rice flour
- 1/4 cup coconut flour
- 2/3 cup Plain Yogurt
- 1 Egg
- 1 Tsp Turmeric (optional for color)
- A small flower pot (for your Gold!)
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large bowl mix together yogurt, egg, and turmeric. The turmeric is optional; however, it adds a fabulous yellow colour to your cookies making them look more like coins!
- Add the rice flour and coconut flour to the wet mixture and use your hands to create the dough. The dough will have a play-doh like consistency when ready.
- Shape your dough to look like a coin. You can roll the dough into small balls, flatten them between your palms and then round out the edges. You can use a cookie cutter or even a chocolate mold.
- Lay out your dough on a cookie sheet and pop them in the oven for 15 - 20 minutes. If you want your cookies to be very crunchy, after they are done cooking, turn the oven off and leave them inside for another hour or two.
- After your cookies have cooled completely, place them in your empty flower pot and voila! Consider printing out a half-rainbow and taping to the outside as an added effect.
This can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week and frozen for up to three months.
