Sometimes referred to as “Beardie”, the Bearded Collie was developed as a herding dog for sheep and cattle in Scotland. They performed independently, herding their flock with little direction from the shepherd. It is believed that the breed is a mix of the Polish Lowland Sheepdog and a variety of Scottish breeds. The temperament of this breed can very from being very energetic and bouncy, to more laid back and calm. They generally get along very well with other animals. If kept as a house pet not a herding dog, the Beaded Collie does require a lot of grooming. They are often very vocal and express their excitement through barking. They are known as being very bouncy, a characteristic that was likely developed by bouncing up on hills to try to view more of the pack they were herding. Their harsh outer coat helps to protects them from the weather, and often changes color throughout their lifetime.

Our dogs love to run around our property, however sometimes they come home with cuts and abrasions. It made us wonder what we would do if something more serious happened. We had heard about Pethealth through our veterinarian and thought it sounded like a good idea... Well it was a good idea! One day Abby came home vomiting. She had hives and trouble breathing. We were terrified. We rushed her to the veterinarian, who said she must have eaten some type of poison. She was treated immediately and now Abby is back to her happy self. It helped knowing that any costs we were to incur were covered with 24Petwatch Pet Insurance. Thank you Pethealth.
