Afghan hounds are often described as “aristocratic” due to their tall and slender stature. They are covered with a long, beautiful, silky coat which requires a lot of attention. The Afghan Hound is an ancient breed, in fact, cave drawings have been found in Afghanistan of this breed from over 4000 years ago! Afghan hounds were originally used to hunt a variety of animals including; goats, deer, and wolves. They are agile runners with a talent for sighting, tracking, and herding making them great hunters. Though generally healthy, this breed has a very low pain tolerance and finds coping with even minor injuries or health ailments very difficult. It is not recommended to keep an Afghan Hound in an apartment as they require free time daily to run in open spaces.

I found out about Pethealth through a
friend in New Jersey. I decided to sign up my 2 Jack Russell Terriers.
One day when I was out, 2 year old Patch (who is a real live wire!), got
into my briefcase and managed to eat a bottle of Motrin. When I got home,
Patch was shaking like a leaf. We rushed him to Emergency, where he was
put on intravenous and kept overnight, after that he was kept for three
more nights at his regular veterinarians. Thank goodness for 24Petwatch Pet Insurance.
Patch was treated right away and my claim was paid quickly too. Both my
dogs are insured with Pethealth and I am very pleased with the results.
I continually tell friends and colleges about Pethealth and all it has done
for us.
