Dog Breeds - Bearded Collie

Return to Breed List

Sometimes referred to as “Beardie”, the Bearded Collie was developed as a herding dog for sheep and cattle in Scotland. They performed independently, herding their flock with little direction from the shepherd. It is believed that the breed is a mix of the Polish Lowland Sheepdog and a variety of Scottish breeds. The temperament of this breed can very from being very energetic and bouncy, to more laid back and calm. They generally get along very well with other animals. If kept as a house pet not a herding dog, the Beaded Collie does require a lot of grooming. They are often very vocal and express their excitement through barking. They are known as being very bouncy, a characteristic that was likely developed by bouncing up on hills to try to view more of the pack they were herding. Their harsh outer coat helps to protects them from the weather, and often changes color throughout their lifetime.

I just want to thank you for your fast friendly service. Honestly, I was not sure how this whole pet insurance thing was going to work out but I am sure glad that I got it. Recently my puppy had severe digestive bloat from getting into some food. I rushed to the emergency vet and racked up a nice bill of $234.30. Thank goodness that my little "Rosa" was okay. I sent my claim to you and you sent me the cheque in full within a week. I am so glad that I have insurance for both my dogs. Thanks Pethealth I really appreciate it. I tell all my friends that you are the best pet insurance on the market... I have proof!
