Dog Breeds - Afghan Hound

Return to Breed List

Afghan hounds are often described as “aristocratic” due to their tall and slender stature. They are covered with a long, beautiful, silky coat which requires a lot of attention. The Afghan Hound is an ancient breed, in fact, cave drawings have been found in Afghanistan of this breed from over 4000 years ago! Afghan hounds were originally used to hunt a variety of animals including; goats, deer, and wolves. They are agile runners with a talent for sighting, tracking, and herding making them great hunters. Though generally healthy, this breed has a very low pain tolerance and finds coping with even minor injuries or health ailments very difficult. It is not recommended to keep an Afghan Hound in an apartment as they require free time daily to run in open spaces.

I heard about Pethealth through the Internet. My veterinarian also mentioned that Pethealth was known to handle their claims promptly and without hassle. One day, my cat Neo ate a pair of earplugs! First I took him to the veterinarian and then I called Pethealth to make sure the costs were covered. The customer care department was fantastic. Neo required extensive medical attention... surgery, medication, and overnight care. The bills were large, but I did not suffer financially - my claim was paid right away. Did I mention their staff were awesome?! Neo is now back to doing backflips in the air and talking my ear off. He is quite the chatterbox
